The PILB armed guard course takes two days. Here is how it runs at Condition Zero Tactical.

Nevada law, use of force, safe handling and armed guard duties. Ends with a written exam.

Nevada Armed Guard Requirements

To carry a firearm on duty in Nevada you need a PILB armed guard card. Here is the short version.

Requirements can change. Always confirm with the Nevada Private Investigators Licensing Board (PILB).

  1. Be sponsored by a licensed security company. They sign your VEAS form.
  2. Hold a current armed or unarmed work card.
  3. Complete the 13-hour PILB firearms course: 8 hours classroom, 5 hours range.
  4. Pass the written exam and qualify on the range with your duty handgun.
  5. Requalify with your duty gun every 6 months.
  6. Take the refresher course every 5 years.

Questions & Answers

How much does the armed guard course cost?

The PILB 2-Day Armed Guard course is $225 at Condition Zero Tactical. The $25 PILB fee is included.

How long is the course?

Two days, 13 hours in total. Day 1 is 8 hours in the classroom. Day 2 is 5 hours on the range. You must attend both days.

Do I need a security job first?

Yes. You must be sponsored by a licensed security company and bring a signed VEAS form from your employer.

Do I need my own gun?

You qualify with the handgun you will carry on duty, approved by your employer. Firearm, eye and ear protection rentals and ammunition are available for an extra fee.

How often do I need to requalify?

Every 6 months with your duty gun. Requalification costs $45 and takes about 1 hour. You also take a refresher course every 5 years.

What do I get when I pass?

A certificate of completion and a qualification card.
